Ingredients
- 250g plain flour
- 125g butter
- 1 medium egg
- 1 tsp of vanilla essence
- 100g jam or filling of your choice
Method
- Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas .
- Butter a 12 hole tart baking tray.
- Place the flour and butter in a bowl and rub them together to until you achieve a breadcrumb texture.
- Add the egg and vanilla essence and mix together until the mixture combines into a ball.
- Roll out the pastry to a few milometers in thickness and cut some rounds just bigger than the holes in your tray.
- Place each round in the tray and add some of the jam on top of each one.
- Bake for 15-20 mins.
Kids’ guide
- Ask a grown up to turn on the oven.
- Rub butter around each hole in the baking tin.
Measure 250g of plain flour. -
Measure 125g of butter. -
Place the flour and butter in a bowl and rub together with your fingers. - Crack the egg into the bowl and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence.

Mix all the ingredients together. - Spread some flour on the table then place the pastry on the table and roll it flat.
- Use a shape cutter to cut out 12 circles of pastry.
- Place the pastry circles in each of the holes in the tin.
- Add a spoonful of jam to each pastry circle.
